Putting a lid on things

Things are still moving pretty slowly. Although there is now a partial roof on the house, there are still a number of things (I can see) that need done before they start working inside.

Estimated completion remains unchanged (end of May), and 6 weeks does not seem enough time. I may be wrong.

Not quite the high point

They really are getting on with now. You can see the plastic on the lower part of the house, ready for the harling on the upper level, and we have the roof joists on the right ready to go up.

The builders have a site manager. Apparently before they had two assistant site managers, who (to us) didn’t seem to speak to each other or do any work. Now that they actually have somebody in charge, things are going strength to strength, and we’re still on track for being in at the end of May.

We have a complete second story. Looks like a house now eh?

Holding up the build

Well, that’s the first floor complete, and scaffolding not quite holding the house up, but ready for putting the second floor in place.

As always – slowly, but surely.

Vic and I went to the Scotland England 6 nations rugby match today and had a whale of a time. Scotland won for the first time in absolutely ages, and the match kept us on the edge of our seats for the entire time.

Scotland 15 – 9 England

Snow Bunny

While Ali’s snowboarding skills don’t quite match up to the real snow bunnies of the Colorado slopes, she obviously beats them on so many other levels and deservedly gets the title of snow bunny.

On a trip up to the Boat Hotel in Boat of Garten, we spontaneously decided to go snowboarding – me for the first time in 5 or so years and Ali – well – just for the first time.

The peak of Cairngorm was absolutely freezing; -21 C with the wind chill factor, but the snow was the best I’ve seen in Scotland for a long time. Rock on the winter holidays!

Bliss

Ali passed her first GP exam – the multiple choice little quiz she did at the end of January. In celebration, we have bubbles and chocolate.

No more bricks, but it looks like the builders want to have a bit of fun, as there’s something that looks like a climbing frame waiting to be erected outside the front door.

Not The Entire Story

Says it all really. Make a fuss, and your house gets built faster (for a month or two at least).

Went along today to pick out our kitchen worktop (and plonk some more money down into their coffers), and discovered half a story completed on our house. The window you can see on the left will be the cloakroom bathroom, and you can see the start of the bay window which will be the lounge.

All very exciting, and encouraging.

Foundations

Today sees the launch of a new website:

Well – not really a new website, just a sign post to this website, with a countup (not a countdown) from when we plonked the 1% deposit down.

Come the end of next month, we will be homeless, and this is what our new home looked like in mid December.

Anybody got a tent we can borrow?
